Here I am taking it easy in the parlor of the Yarnall's. This is one of two rental homes my parents owned. The Yarnalls, Edith and Frank, had six children, one of whom I married, Jean.

Most homes in my hometown, Mount Carmel, had three rooms downstairs. A kitchen, a dining room in the center and a parlor. The dining room was usually not a place where dining was done but was typically set up as a family room. Meals were typically eaten in the kitchen. In my early childhood most dining rooms were also equiped with a heaterola. A heaterola was a coal fired heater used to heat, suposedly, the entire home. The parlor was usually off-limits except for when there were visitors, and Sundays, holidays and other special events.
